Shalyatantra department

Acharya Sushruta is considered as “Father of Surgery”. Shalyatantra is a branch in Ayurveda which deals with surgery.
Department of Shalyatantra is having fullfledged departmental museum with good number of specimens, charts and models. There is separate departmental library consisting of latest to rarest books. This department is running PG unit with 13PG Scholars involved in various research activities. Shalyatantra subject is dealt in 4th year for UG students.
Clinicals- Running surgery unit, with regular major surgeries as- Hernia, Hydrocele, Special Ksharasutra technique to manage Haemorrhoids & Fistula-in-Ano. Minor Surgeries operated- Cyst, Lipoma, Abscess, Corn, Wart, etc. Parasurgical procedures- Raktamokshana(Blood letting), Agnikarma(Thermal Cautery), Kshara karma(Alkali/Chemical Cautery) to treat diseases as Diabetic Foot Ulcers, Non Healing Ulcers, Joint Pain, Warts, Calcaneal Spur, Skin Diseases etc.
Medical Management- Renal Caliculi, Varicose Veins, Eczema, Acid Peptic Disorders, Fissure-in-ano etc. Free Health Check-up Camps- Department is active in conducting various Camps on Renal Disorders, Non Healing Ulcers (like Diabetic Foot Ulcers, Varicose Ulcers), Prostate Disorders, Ano-rectal Disorders etc periodically at our Hospital as well as nearby villages like Benakatti, Sonna, Lokapur etc. Practical Training- Students are given handson training in different Ward/surgical procedures like Suturing, Bandaging, Knotting, Catheterization, POP/Splints/Slab application. And some of Chronic Non-Healing Ulcer/Wound management techniques like Vrana Basti, Parisheka, Avaghaha sweda, Lepa Chikitsa, Vimlapana Karma etc.
